Reform New Party to Shift to Emergency Committee Instead of Party Convention... All-Member Vote This Week
After Internal Deliberations, Party Decides on Emergency Committee System
Emergency Committee to Operate for No More Than One Year
The Reform New Party has decided to shift to an emergency committee system instead of holding a party convention in order to address the party's current crisis. As there is no existing provision for establishing an emergency committee in the party constitution, the party plans to amend the constitution through a party-wide vote this week.
On September 7, Cheon Haram, Acting Party Leader of the Reform New Party, held a press conference at the National Assembly and stated, "We have concluded that it is necessary to invite an emergency committee chair and form an emergency committee in order to bring about more drastic change and renewal."

However, after gathering opinions through meetings such as the joint session of city and provincial party chairpersons on September 4, he shifted to an early resolution plan by transitioning to an emergency committee system.
Acting Leader Cheon said, "We have confirmed that transitioning to an emergency committee is both necessary and reasonable, and that there is broad consensus within the party," adding, "No one can deny that the Reform New Party is currently facing an emergency."
However, as there is no provision in the current Reform New Party constitution regarding the establishment of an emergency committee, it is necessary to amend the constitution. The Reform New Party plans to conduct a party-wide vote this week using the 'K-Voting System' via mobile, allowing all members to cast their votes for or against the proposal. The specific voting schedule will be announced by the party office after further discussions.
The period of operating under the emergency committee system will not exceed one year. Acting Leader Cheon stated, "We intend to limit the term of the emergency committee to no more than one year as stipulated in the constitution," and added, "Authority will be delegated to the emergency committee chair until around August next year, which is the remainder of the former Chairman Lee Junseok's term, so that reforms can be completed without being pressed for time."

Acting Leader Cheon further commented, "If our party members grant their approval, we will promptly form the emergency committee and work to normalize the party's emergency situation," adding, "Through renewal, we will turn this into a turning point that brings our party even greater love and support from the public."
