GS Construction to Develop 'Prefabricated Modular' Data Center for Faster Delivery
GS Construction, LG Uplus, and Three Other Companies Join Forces
Joint Development of 'Hyperscale PMDC Standard Model'
Enhanced Competitiveness Through Modular-Based Construction Period Reduction
GS Construction is launching the development of a standard model for a Prefabricated Modular Data Center (PMDC) by integrating modular technology, in order to respond quickly to the surging demand for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.
On the 4th, a business agreement was signed to establish PMDC at LG Uplus Pyeongchon Mega Center in Anyang, Gyeonggi-do, with Yoon Hong Huh, CEO of GS Construction (second from left), taking a commemorative photo. GS Construction

The signing ceremony, held on September 4, was attended by Yoon Hong Huh, CEO of GS Construction; Beom Sik Hong, CEO of LG Uplus; Wook Soo Kim, CEO of Xi C&A; Moo Chan Park, CEO of Gansam Architects & Partners; and Young Ho Lee, CEO of D&O CM, among other officials.
The standard model PMDC to be developed through this agreement utilizes a modular approach in which main components such as the building structure, power, and cooling systems are prefabricated and then assembled and installed on-site. Compared to conventional on-site construction of data centers, this method not only shortens construction time and standardizes quality, but also mitigates on-site risks and offers advantages for stepwise expansion in response to increasing demand in the future.
Each participating company plans to jointly promote the development and commercialization of a hyperscale PMDC standard model suitable for large-scale AI data centers. GS Construction, leveraging its experience in building large data centers, will review the architectural structure, construction methods, measures to shorten the construction schedule, and cost effectiveness for PMDC models applied to new sites. LG Uplus will propose operational technical requirements and business directions based on its experience in operating data centers and understanding of customer demands.
Xi C&A will review PMDC models that utilize existing buildings, leveraging its expertise in data center power, mechanical, and cooling systems. Gansam Architects & Partners will be responsible for the standard design of the data center based on its specialized design capabilities. D&O CM will support the establishment of an effective collaboration system from the standpoint of project scheduling, progress, risk, and business management.
