"Two Trays of Eggs for 9,990 Won, Not Available at Large Retailers—Now Supplied Nationwide to Neighborhood Supermarkets"
Hana Financial, SEMAS, and the Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise Join Forces to Stabilize Consumer Prices
Hana Financial Group has teamed up with the Small Enterprise and Market Service (SEMAS) ahead of the Chuseok holiday to revitalize local neighborhood businesses and help ease consumer inflation.
According to industry sources on September 6, Hana Financial Group signed a "Business Agreement to Stabilize Prices through Supplying Affordable Eggs to Neighborhood Supermarkets" at its Myeong-dong headquarters on September 4, in collaboration with SEMAS and the Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise. The initiative aims both to reduce the burden on consumers worn down by high prices, and to boost customer traffic at neighborhood supermarkets, thereby reinvigorating local commercial districts with mutually beneficial price support measures.
This project stands out for directly selecting 20 poultry farms and minimizing margins from the farms through intermediate distributors, in order to cut consumer prices. The plan is to supply approximately 120,000 trays of "the Affordable Eggs" to over 4,000 neighborhood supermarkets nationwide. Starting on September 6, sets of two trays of eggs (60 eggs in total) will be sold for 9,990 won across the country. According to the Korea Institute for Animal Products Quality Evaluation, the average consumer price for a tray of 30 eggs last month was 7,332 won, making the eggs supplied through this project about 32% cheaper than regular retail prices.
Hana Financial Group is providing contributions for shared growth, and is supporting labor costs for egg washing, inspection, sorting, and nationwide logistics distribution. SEMAS is preparing clear price displays and operational guidelines. The Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise is securing sales channels via its member small supermarket chains nationwide and offering in-store support.
