Participants read a declaration aloud and collectively chanted the slogan, "Let's unite all 130,000 residents and bring the horse racing park to Yangpyeong."
Governor Jeon stated, "The launch of the Promotion Committee for Residents signifies that the effort to attract the horse racing park has taken its first step as a countywide initiative, expanding beyond the realm of administrative tasks to become a collective project involving county residents and the local community."
Yangpyeong County has been preparing for the bid by submitting proposals to relevant organizations and continuing related discussions. Since last month, the county has conducted a signature campaign involving all residents. Going forward, the county plans to formulate an attraction strategy through a public project feasibility study, and then proceed step by step with submitting proposals and coordinating with relevant agencies.
The Committee argued that residents have endured over 40 years of noise and various inconveniences due to the Yongmunsan shooting range. It emphasized that closing and relocating the shooting range and establishing an eco-friendly horse racing park in its place is more than simply attracting a new facility; it is a transformative project that will change the local economy and the future of Yangpyeong.
The county's vision is to develop the horse racing park into a tourism and leisure hub for eastern Gyeonggi Province. Yangpyeong plans to both conserve its natural environment and ecological value and link tourism, ecological, and leisure industries to secure new growth engines and jobs.
In the declaration, the Committee stated, "Yangpyeong's long-standing sacrifices deserve to be rewarded with new opportunities," and asserted, "The site of the Yongmunsan shooting range must become a place that returns new hope to residents, and the beginning of this must be attracting the horse racing park."
