Jae-yong Lee, Chairman of Samsung Electronics, and Tae-won Chey, Chairman of SK Group, are reportedly scheduled to meet Jensen Huang, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NVIDIA, in New York, USA, at the end of this month. With the gathering of these three leading figures in the global artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor market, there is heightened attention on whether cooperation in the AI sector, including the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) supply chain, will be further strengthened.

It will be the first time in about two months that these three are meeting at an official event since President Jae-myung Lee’s visit to the United States in July.
Industry insiders are paying close attention to this meeting, as it comes at a time when the U.S. government is increasing pressure on Korean semiconductor companies to make additional investments in the United States and build local manufacturing plants. Since Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are already constructing large-scale advanced fabrication and back-end processing plants in the U.S., there is speculation that the two leaders may naturally meet with high-ranking officials from the American political and business spheres at the event to discuss local issues such as subsidies.
There is also interest in the additional schedules of the two leaders during their trip to the U.S. Chairman Chey is reportedly planning to attend a dinner in conjunction with the United Nations General Assembly in New York at the end of the month, and then visit Mexico to inspect production and supply chain sites in North America. There are also expectations that Chairman Lee will use his U.S. trip to hold a series of meetings with key executives from major local big tech companies.
