A woman in her 30s has been sentenced to prison for sneaking into victims' homes using door passcodes she learned while working as a cleaning helper and stealing valuables worth tens of millions of won.
On September 5, Judge Kim Hoegeun of the 12th Criminal Division of the Seoul Northern District Court announced that he had sentenced Ms. A (36), who was charged with theft, fraud, and violation of the Specialized Credit Financial Business Act, to three years and six months in prison.
Ms. A was brought to trial for using the front door passcodes of victims she learned through a popular cleaning assistant application, entering their residences between December of last year and March of this year, and stealing cash, jewelry, bags, and other items. In a total of nine incidents, she stole cash and valuables amounting to KRW 59,448,300. From one victim's home, she took nine pieces of jewelry worth about KRW 20 million and KRW 5.8 million in cash.
Judge Kim acknowledged Ms. A's crimes based on the specific statements of the victims and the circumstances at the time. For some victims, the judge ruled out the possibility of theft by a third party, noting that no one other than Ms. A had entered the homes.

Judge Kim stated, "Considering the method and details of the crimes, the nature of the offense is extremely poor. The defendant committed these crimes again even though she had previously served time for similar offenses and was within the repeated offender period after her release. Therefore, she deserves to be strictly punished."
