Former Deputy Governor Choi Manrim Returns to Gyeongnam Province as Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs

Choi Man-rim, former Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs, who made this remark upon stepping down from his post, will be returning to Gyeongnam Province after two years as the Specially Appointed Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs.
On September 3, Gyeongnam Province announced that it has appointed former Deputy Governor Choi as the first Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs of the 9th popularly elected administration.
Former Deputy Governor Choi will officially take office as Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs on September 7.

Born in Goseong, Gyeongnam, he entered public service by passing the 37th Higher Civil Service Examination and has served as Vice Mayor of Sacheon, Director of Planning and Coordination Office at Gyeongnam Province, Director of Local Finance Policy at the Ministry of Interior and Safety, and Director of Disaster Response Policy.
Notably, as the first Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs under Park Wansu's 8th administration, he is credited with major achievements for the province, such as making key pending issues into national projects, establishing a disaster response system, and addressing gaps in welfare and health care, from July 25, 2022, to August 26, 2024.
After concluding his 30 years and 4 months of public service with an honorary retirement as Deputy Governor for Administrative Affairs of Gyeongnam Province, he recently served as Senior Expert Member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee.
Last month, Gyeongnam Province submitted a partial amendment to the "Ordinance on the Establishment of Administrative Organizations" to the provincial council. This amendment would change the title of Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs to "Deputy Governor for Innovation and Growth," and expand the departments under the deputy governor's supervision to include not only the Industrial Bureau, Economic and Trade Bureau, and advisory roles to the governor, but also the Education and Youth Bureau, Marine and Fisheries Bureau, Urban Housing Bureau, and Transportation and Construction Bureau.
