KOSPI Rebounds After Dropping to 6,439.49
KOSDAQ Starts Higher but Ends in Negative Territory
The KOSPI index briefly fell below the 6,500 mark during trading hours but recovered to close slightly higher. The KOSDAQ index started the session on an upward trend but reversed course and ended lower.
On September 3, the KOSPI index closed at 6,579.48, up by 16.76 points (0.26%) compared to the previous trading day. The index had dropped to as low as 6,439.49 at one point before rebounding. By investor type, foreigners, individuals, and institutions all recorded net selling. Foreign investors sold a net 207.749 billion won, individuals sold 1.159748 trillion won, and institutions sold 241.86 billion won.
By sector, performances were mixed. Insurance (+4.44%), construction (+3.45%), electricity and gas (+3.22%), transportation equipment and parts (+2.69%), machinery and equipment (+2.50%), and metals (+2.09%) closed higher. In contrast, textiles and apparel (-1.56%), telecommunications (-1.38%), medical and precision equipment (-1.13%), and pharmaceuticals (-0.96%) closed lower.
Among large-cap stocks by market capitalization, the top four—Samsung Electronics (-0.2%), SK hynix (-1.0%), SK Square (-0.1%), and Samsung Electro-Mechanics (-3.7%)—all ended the session flat or slightly down. On the other hand, financial stocks such as KB Financial Group (+5.2%), Shinhan Financial Group (+3.6%), Hana Financial Group (+3.4%), and Samsung Life Insurance (+3.0%) recorded gains. LG Energy Solution (+5.1%), Doosan Enerbility (+3.3%), and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (+3.0%) also posted gains of more than 3%.
The KOSDAQ index closed at 790.21, down 13.77 points (1.71%) from the previous trading day. Although it started the session at 813.36, up 9.38 points (1.17%), it turned lower early on and was unable to recover.
By investor type, foreigners and institutions recorded net selling of 129.358 billion won and 197.389 billion won, respectively, while individual investors bought a net total of 340.233 billion won.
By sector, all sectors except for transportation and warehousing (+2.17%), metals (+0.26%), and paper and wood (+0.03%) ended lower. General services (-3.87%), pharmaceuticals (-2.32%), electrical and electronics (-1.56%), manufacturing (-1.46%), chemicals (-1.44%), machinery and equipment (-1.29%), and medical and precision equipment (-1.26%) were notably weak.

Among the top stocks by market capitalization, Alteogen, the largest by market cap on the KOSDAQ, saw a significant decline of 5.1%, while EcoPro, ranked second, closed flat at -0.3%, and EcoPro BM, third, also ended almost unchanged at +0.1%. Among semiconductor-related stocks, EO Technics posted a gain of over 3% (+3.9%), whereas Simmtech (-4.7%), Wonik IPS (-4.2%), and Jusung Engineering (-3.2%) closed lower. Robotis (+0.6%) and Rainbow Robotics (0.0%) closed slightly higher or flat.
