LabelUp Joins PyTorch Foundation as Silver Member, Expanding Collaboration in the Global AI Ecosystem
AI infrastructure software company LabelUp is expanding its collaboration with the global open-source artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystem by joining the PyTorch Foundation, under the Linux Foundation, as a Silver Member.
LabelUp announced on September 3 that it has become a Silver Member of the PyTorch Foundation. The PyTorch Foundation is an organization that supports open-source technologies and developer communities used for training, optimizing, serving, and deploying AI models. It was established in 2022 as a neutral administrator of the PyTorch project and expanded in 2025 into a foundation that encompasses multiple open-source AI projects. Currently, it supports PyTorch as well as projects such as vLLM, DeepSpeed, Ray, Helion, and Safetensors.
With this membership, LabelUp plans to strengthen its cooperation with the global open-source AI ecosystem and participate in technological and community activities.
The AI infrastructure platform 'Backend.AI', developed by LabelUp, manages computing resources required for AI model development, training, inference, and service operation—from individual development environments to enterprise data centers. Its key features include resource separation so that multiple users can efficiently share a single infrastructure and dynamic allocation of computing resources suited to each job type. Furthermore, various types of graphics processing units (GPUs) and AI accelerators can be managed in an integrated manner on a single platform.
PyTorch is one of the main AI workload frameworks that runs on Backend.AI. LabelUp has operated various AI infrastructure environments in which the development, training, inference, and deployment of PyTorch-based models take place.
Through this membership, LabelUp plans to expand its touchpoints with the PyTorch ecosystem, not only in the AI model development stage but also in large-scale training and inference environments based on its experience with infrastructure operation.
LabelUp is also continuously increasing its participation in the open-source ecosystem. In 2020, the company joined the Linux Foundation and the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) as a Silver Member, and this year, it became a sponsor of the Python Software Foundation and joined Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF) as a Silver Member.
Jeonggyu Shin, CEO of LabelUp, said, "Since its founding, LabelUp has been developing Backend.AI as an open-source project, and even now, AI workloads are running on Backend.AI every day around the world. In that process, PyTorch has become a core ecosystem connecting model development, training, and inference."
