The delivery ceremony, held on August 25, was attended by officials from Ulsan Metropolitan City, Korea Zinc, Ulsan Community Chest, and Ulsan Volunteer Center.
This support fund has been established to strengthen early disaster response capabilities by providing onsite response equipment and relief supplies in advance, moving beyond previous support that was focused on post-disaster recovery.
The funds will be used to expand on-site support infrastructure and emergency relief supplies for the Ulsan Volunteer Center and for volunteer centers in the five districts and counties. Plans include introducing electric vans for the swift transportation of personnel and relief goods to disaster sites, as well as preparing field equipment such as food, drinking water, portable power banks, and temporary tents.
The vehicles introduced will feature V2L (vehicle-to-load) capability, enabling them to serve as emergency power sources at disaster sites. The vehicles and equipment will also be used for community volunteer activities and support for vulnerable groups during normal times.
With this initiative, Korea Zinc Onsan Smelter plans to expand its social contribution efforts from post-disaster recovery support to include proactive preparedness.
Last year, the Onsan Smelter also provided donations and supplies for wildfire and heavy rain damage recovery efforts. During the water outage in Ulju-gun, Ulsan, the company delivered 40,000 bottles of drinking water to residents.
