Yura Named September Artist for Melon's "TrackZero"
Korean Music Awards-Winning Singer-Songwriter
Kakao Entertainment's music platform Melon announced on September 3 that it has selected singer-songwriter Yura as the September artist for its indie music activation project, "TrackZero."
Launched in April 2022, TrackZero selects a "Artist of the Month" and recommends newly released songs from the past three to four months, featuring them on the Melon App every month.
This month, Melon will release an interview with Yura and her recommended playlist, following the release of her EP "Brush" in July. The album features five tracks that, in order, weave together the past, present, and future. Yura explained, "I came up with the album title after seeing the texture of a brush. I try to avoid things that are overly refined, artificial scents, or flawless surfaces. I wanted every sound to have its own texture, and that's the meaning behind the title."
The album description shares her experience of taking a farewell trip with her dog. Yura noted, "It was quite tough, but looking back, all of it has become precious memories." She further stated that the "texture" running through the album represents "the accumulation of events and stories a person encounters throughout life."
The first track, "Leash," was originally composed with a jazz trio in mind, but Yura completed the final version herself. During the arrangement process, she adjusted detailed elements like replacing the bass, which was initially recorded with real instruments, with virtual ones. The lyrics, "Slowly cook me, I'm still too raw to mature mentally," reflect a sense of emotional immaturity.
The third track, "Bathhouse," features the flute. Yura said she drew on her childhood fascination with the instrument, which she learned for a short time as a child. She also recommended listening to her songs "Mimi" and "Laundry" together to better understand her musical direction.
The fourth track, "2510 Mark," was written while thinking of someone she likes. The final track, "Symphony No.1 for a Cat's Sound Sleep," centers around a cat. Yura described cats as "mysterious, transcendental beings" and "research subjects with endless unknowns."
