Hankook Tire Establishes New Self-Consumption Solar Power Facility at Kumsan Plant
Installed Capacity of 5,069kW
Expected to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by Approximately 3,061 tCO₂ Annually
Hankook Tire & Technology (hereinafter "Hankook Tire") announced on September 3 that it has established a self-consumption type solar power generation facility with a capacity of approximately 5MW at its Kumsan Plant located in Geumsan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, further advancing the plant as a hub for eco-friendly energy production.
Hankook Tire installed solar power generation facilities with capacities of 2,692kW and 2,377kW, respectively, on the roofs of the raw material building and the finished goods warehouse built in 2025 within the existing Kumsan Plant, securing a total generation capacity of 5MW. The facilities are expected to produce approximately 6.66GWh of renewable energy annually. Through self-consumption, this is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 3,061 tCO₂ per year.

Hankook Tire plans to continue expanding its transition to renewable energy as part of its ongoing efforts to achieve its "2050 Net-Zero (carbon neutrality)" goal.
Hankook Tire is utilizing solar power generation facilities not only at the Kumsan Plant but also at its major overseas production bases. At the Chongqing Plant in China, a facility with a capacity of approximately 1MW has been installed and operational, and at the Jiaxing Plant in China, about 0.66MW of self-consumption type solar power generation facilities have been installed on the parking lot rooftop and are currently in operation.
In 2023, Hankook Tire became the first tire company in South Korea to receive approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Under its goal of reducing direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 46.2% compared to 2019 levels by 2030, the company is progressively implementing its renewable energy transition strategy.
In addition, Hankook Tire has been pursuing various approaches to expand the use of renewable energy at its global production sites. These include concluding a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) at the Racalmas Plant in Hungary; obtaining "ISCC (International Sustainability & Carbon Certification) PLUS" certification for the Jiaxing Plant in China, in addition to the Kumsan, Racalmas, and Daejeon Plants; and purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (REC).
