A man in his 30s who fled from police pursuit in downtown Daegu was ultimately subdued by live ammunition after crashing into multiple vehicles and police officers.
According to Yonhap News on September 2, the Daegu Gangbuk Police Station is currently investigating a man in his 30s, identified as A, on charges including obstruction of official duty with a dangerous weapon, after he fled the scene of a car accident and collided with police vehicles and officers during the chase. A woman in her 30s, identified as B, who was in the car with A, was also apprehended on suspicion of aiding and abetting drunk driving by facilitating the crime.
At approximately 2:03 a.m. that day, A was driving a Mercedes-Benz near the Gugu Tunnel in Buk-gu, when he caused a minor collision. Instead of complying with police orders to step out of the vehicle, he attempted to flee, subsequently crashing into police cars and officers.
At the time, police had received a report from a citizen near the Gugu Tunnel concerning suspected drunk driving. After tracking the vehicle, police boxed in A’s car with patrol cars in front of his residence and ordered him to exit the vehicle.
However, A refused to comply and attempted to escape again, during which he struck eight parked vehicles and two police cars. He also hit a police officer, causing a femoral fracture and other injuries.
The police first fired a warning shot, followed by four live rounds at both the front and rear tires of the Mercedes-Benz. When A eventually opened the car door and exited, officers subdued him with a taser and then arrested both A and B at the scene. It was reported that both A and B refused to submit to breathalyzer tests.

Police investigations revealed that A had driven a total of 20 kilometers from Jung-gu, through the Gugu Tunnel in Buk-gu, to his residence. A police official stated, "We are also charging him with refusal to comply with a breathalyzer test," adding, "We are considering whether to apply for an arrest warrant."
