Hadong Coal Power Plant to Be Converted to LNG... SNT Energy Signs 128.2 Billion Won Equipment Supply Contract
Supply Contract with Korea South-East Power, Equipment Delivered Through 2029
Consortium with Doosan Enerbility, Responsible for HRSG
A supply contract worth 128.2 billion won has been signed for equipment as part of a project to convert aging coal-fired power plants into LNG combined cycle power plants.
SNT Energy (CEO Shin Kyungin) announced on September 2 that it had signed a contract with Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd. for the supply of Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) for the Hadong LNG Combined Cycle Power Plant, valued at approximately 128.2 billion won.
This project involves Korea South-East Power replacing the aging 1,000MW Hadong Coal-Fired Units 2 and 3 with a new high-efficiency LNG combined cycle power plant.
SNT Energy will form a consortium with Doosan Enerbility and carry out its share of the project on a divided-execution basis. SNT Energy will be responsible for supplying the HRSG, a core facility of the LNG combined cycle plant.
An HRSG is a device that utilizes the high-temperature exhaust gases from a gas turbine to generate steam, which then drives a steam turbine to produce additional electricity.
The contract period is from September 2026 to December 2029. The contract amount is equivalent to 21.14% of SNT Energy’s consolidated sales for 2025, which are projected to be approximately 606 billion won.
In the domestic power generation industry, efforts to convert aging coal-fired power plants to LNG combined cycle plants and modernize existing power facilities continue. These projects are being led by state-run power generation companies and private power providers, and the sequential transition of old coal-fired plants to LNG is also underway in accordance with government electricity supply plans.
Accordingly, demand for HRSGs and related equipment for LNG combined cycle power plants is expected to continue.

A representative from SNT Energy stated, “SNT Energy’s capabilities in the design and manufacturing of HRSGs have been recognized in major domestic LNG combined cycle projects,” adding, “We will actively expand our bids for LNG combined cycle and power plant modernization projects both domestically and internationally.”
