Shinhan Investment Corp Signs MOU with Japan’s UMI Ventures to Establish ‘Cross-Border Venture Fund’
On September 2, Shinhan Investment Corp announced that it had signed a business agreement (MOU) with UMI Ventures, a Japanese venture capital firm specializing in materials, parts, and equipment, to establish a 'cross-border venture fund' for joint investment in deep tech companies in Korea and Japan.
This MOU marks the first official partnership between Shinhan Investment Corp and UMI Ventures. Going forward, the two companies plan to jointly discover promising companies in both countries and support their entry into each other’s markets, covering a wide range of deep tech fields including semiconductors, robotics, aerospace, and defense. The new fund is expected to contribute to enhancing the productive financial functions of the capital market by supplying venture capital to deep tech companies with high growth potential.

Taking this agreement as an opportunity, the two companies intend to further develop detailed cooperation plans and continuously expand joint investments and exchanges that connect Korea and Japan. Following the conference held in Tokyo in August, they are scheduled to hold another event in Korea this October to introduce Japan’s deep tech market and promising companies. Previously, the two companies have co-hosted the ‘Korea-Japan Deep Tech Conference’ in Tokyo.
Jang Hosik, Head of CIB1 Group at Shinhan Investment Corp, said, “This agreement is an important milestone, as Shinhan Investment Corp joins hands with UMI Ventures to link the deep tech ecosystems of Korea and Japan,” adding, “In the long term, we will develop this partnership beyond simple investment to support mutual market entry for companies from both nations.”
