View original imageThe Korea Tourism Organization announced on September 2 that it had selected six innovative AI technology companies through the "AI-Based Regional Tourism Problem-Solving Project" held on August 28 to address key challenges facing major tourist destinations in Hadong. The initiative aims to utilize cutting-edge private sector technology at tourism sites to enhance convenience and safety for visitors and strengthen the competitiveness of regional tourism.
The project will focus on Ssanggyesa Temple and the Hwagae Market area near Mount Jiri. Ssanggyesa Temple attracts more than 500,000 visitors annually, while Hwagae Market receives about 1 million visitors, making them signature tourist destinations in the region. During cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons, the influx of tourists causes safety risks and parking congestion. Other ongoing issues include inconvenient transportation between attractions and a lack of multilingual information services for foreign tourists.
To address these challenges, the Korea Tourism Organization defined five key tasks: AI-based mapping, congestion analysis, multilingual guidance, parking congestion management, and customized services. The selected companies will begin on-site pilot testing for these technologies starting in September.
Participants in the project include Freegrow, which will offer customized navigation routes for tourists based on AI mapping; Deeping Source, which will analyze crowd and vehicle congestion; and XL8 AI, which will provide AI docents and multilingual tourist interpretation services. Also joining are Intflow, which will use CCTV footage to analyze parking congestion; Cflat AI, an AI digital human company; and Tale Studio, which will create customized AI video content.
