Gaon Cable Accelerates Push into AI Data Center Market with 'Low-Friction Cable'

Gaon Cable announced on September 2 that it is expanding the application of next-generation low-friction cables to artificial intelligence (AI) data centers (AIDC), thereby strengthening its strategy to target the AI power infrastructure market.
The low-friction cable is a specialized power distribution product that reduces installation friction by approximately 30% compared to conventional products by improving the sheath material. This enables up to a 45% increase in installation distance, allowing for both a reduction in labor required for cable installation and overall construction costs. It is an advanced, high-difficulty technology product produced and supplied by only a few companies in North America and Europe, and Gaon Cable has completed patent registration for its core material technology.
Although the adoption of bus ducts is expanding in AIDCs to meet large-capacity power supply needs, distribution cables are still used for certain sections depending on design and construction conditions. The company expects that the low-friction cable will enhance both the constructability and cost-efficiency of developing power infrastructure in AIDCs.
Last year, Gaon Cable supplied low-friction cables to a North American semiconductor plant and demonstrated its technological reliability. The expanded rollout to AIDCs is based on this low-friction technology proven at semiconductor plants. Leveraging the technical competitiveness of its parent company LS Cable and the local business capabilities of its U.S. subsidiary, LS Cable USA (LSCUS), Gaon Cable is supplying bus ducts for AI data centers to major American big tech firms and AI cloud service providers.
Additionally, the company has supplied low-voltage (LV) cables for power plants dedicated to AI data centers operated by U.S. big tech companies, while LSCUS is expanding the supply of medium-voltage (MV) cables that connect substations and AIDC campuses. In this way, the company is broadening its AIDC power infrastructure product lineup, ranging from bus ducts to LV and MV cables.
