Han Hak-ja, the leader of the Unification Church, who was sentenced to a prison term in the first trial on charges of collusion between religion and the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, will remain at liberty as her detention execution suspension has been extended.
According to the legal community on September 1, the 27th Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Woo Inseong), which presided over Han's case in the first trial, extended Han's suspension of detention execution by one month, now set to expire at 6 p.m. on the 30th.

The first trial court also found Han guilty of embezzling Unification Church funds and of splitting a donation of 144 million won to several People Power Party lawmakers. However, she was acquitted of certain embezzlement charges committed in the course of her work, and the court dismissed the charges related to abetting destruction of evidence and embezzlement related to supporting overseas politicians' campaign funds, ruling that these were not subject to investigation under the Kim Keon Hee special prosecutor law.
