Kia Sells 266,675 Units in August... Overseas Sales Rise 7.4%
Kia sold 266,675 units in the global market in August 2026, marking a 5.0% increase compared to the same month last year. Although domestic sales declined, increased overseas sales drove the company’s overall performance.
In August, Kia sold 40,213 units domestically, 225,413 units overseas, and 1,049 units of special vehicles. Compared to the same period last year, domestic sales fell by 7.6%, while overseas sales rose by 7.4%.
By model, the Sportage was the best-selling vehicle globally, with 46,239 units sold. This was followed by the Seltos with 35,698 units and the Sorento with 18,404 units.
In the domestic market, the Sorento was the top seller with 6,397 units. Among recreational vehicles (RVs), a total of 26,233 units were sold, including the Sorento, Carnival (4,186 units), Sportage (3,874 units), and Seltos (3,307 units). For passenger cars, a total of 9,758 units were sold, with the Ray at 3,718 units, the K8 at 1,938 units, and the K5 at 1,920 units.
For commercial vehicles, 2,385 units of the Bongo III and 1,744 units of the PV5 were sold, bringing the total to 4,222 units. Domestic sales decreased compared to the same month last year, mainly due to fewer working days during the summer vacation period.
Overseas, the Sportage led sales with 42,365 units, followed by the Seltos at 32,391 units and the K4 at 17,519 units.
Special vehicles recorded a total of 1,049 units sold, with 152 units domestically and 897 units overseas, up by 93.9% year-on-year.
For the cumulative period from January to August 2026, total sales came to 2,196,123 units, comprising 390,596 units in Korea, 1,800,865 units overseas, and 4,662 units of special vehicles, reflecting a 4.4% increase from the same period last year. Domestic sales rose by 7.0%, while overseas sales increased by 3.7%.

A Kia official stated, "While sales in the domestic market declined compared to the same month last year due to fewer working days associated with summer holidays, the overseas market maintained its growth momentum through region-specific and tailored sales strategies. In the second half of the year, we aim to continue driving sales growth with a focus on hybrid vehicles in the United States and electric vehicles in Europe."
