Hyundai Sells 288,574 Vehicles in August... Domestic Sales Plunge 41% Amid Strike Disruptions
Hyundai Motor Company sold a total of 288,574 vehicles in the domestic and overseas markets in August 2026. This figure represents a 14.2% decrease compared to the same month last year, due to production disruptions caused by union strikes and waiting demand for new models.
In August, Hyundai's domestic sales amounted to 34,333 units, a sharp 41.1% drop compared to the same period last year. Overseas sales also declined by 8.5% to 254,241 units. Compared to the previous month, domestic sales fell by 28.6% and overseas sales decreased by 6.0%.
In the domestic market, 10,922 sedans, 10,810 recreational vehicles (RVs), and 6,503 small commercial vehicles were sold.
Among sedans, the Grandeur led with 5,931 units sold, followed by the Sonata with 3,105 units and the Avante with 1,462 units. For RVs, the Santa Fe recorded 3,596 units, the Palisade 1,812 units, and the IONIQ 5 1,372 units. The Porter sold 4,224 units and the Staria 2,184 units.
For the Genesis brand, a total of 4,545 units were sold, including 1,460 units of the G80, 1,406 units of the GV70, and 1,240 units of the GV80.
Cumulative sales from January to August this year totaled 2,575,360 units, comprising 399,159 units in Korea and 2,176,201 units overseas. Compared to the same period last year, domestic sales dropped by 15.0% and overseas sales by 4.1%, resulting in an overall cumulative decrease of 6.0%.
Hyundai Motor Company cited production disruptions due to strikes and waiting demand for new models as the main reasons for the sales decrease in August.
