Two other men in their 20s, including Kim, were also brought to court without detention on the same charge. Prosecutors asked for a one-year prison sentence for all three men, including Park.
The prosecution explained their sentencing request by stating, “The defendants have acknowledged their actions. However, the gravity of their misconduct is not minor, and they have not received forgiveness from the police officers who were victimized.”
Park and the others were indicted on charges of mocking police officers by calling them “Chinese public security” and blocking their path while the officers were maintaining order at a protest site near the Olympic Park ballot counting station in Songpa-gu, Seoul, in June.
