The Korea Fair Trade Mediation Agency announced on September 1 that, in cooperation with the Korea Fair Trade Commission, it will conduct a training program from September 1 to 12 for competition authorities from the Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia, aiming to share Korea’s fair trade law framework and dispute mediation system.

This training is being conducted as part of the Ministry Support Training Project by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The intent is to support developing countries in improving their fair trade environment by sharing South Korea’s experience and expertise in efficiently resolving unfair market practices and disputes accumulated during its rapid economic growth.

The training program is systematically organized with a focus on practical applications. Participants will study South Korea’s competition law framework, the Fair Trade Commission’s case handling procedures, an overview of different types of competition cases, and real-life examples. In particular, there will be expert lectures and in-depth discussions on Korea’s dispute mediation system—established as a swift and effective remedy for damages suffered by small businesses—and on the competition impact assessment system.

In addition to theoretical instruction, there will also be workshops for in-depth sharing of current issues in each country’s fair trade systems. The aim is to enhance policy-making capabilities by seeking practical legal enforcement and policy solutions tailored to each country’s market environment.

The training group’s itinerary also includes field visits outside of the classroom. Participants will visit the headquarters of the Korea Fair Trade Mediation Agency and the Korea Consumer Agency, witnessing first-hand the operation of dispute mediation and consumer protection systems. Additionally, attendees will tour cultural and historical landmarks such as the National Museum of Korea and Gyeongbokgung Palace to further deepen their understanding of Korea.

The Korea Fair Trade Mediation Agency stated, “This training program will become a significant opportunity to actively discuss cooperation measures in the fair trade sector with major ASEAN countries in the future,” adding, “We will continue to promote global exchanges and cooperation so that Korea’s outstanding fair trade systems can be expanded internationally.”
