'Yeongcheon Ondongne Care·Education Center' Opens... Available to Students from Eight Elementary Schools
Gumi Center to Open in 2027
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education announced that from September 1, it will officially open the "Yeongcheon Ondongne Care·Education Center," established at Yeongcheon Dongbu Elementary School, and begin full-scale operation of customized care and educational programs linking various resources from schools and the local community.
The Yeongcheon Ondongne Care Education Center has been established to provide students with safe and diverse educational experiences and offer parents a reliable care environment by supporting a wide range of care and educational needs that may be difficult to address within the school itself, utilizing both human and material resources from the local community.
The center is available to any elementary school student in Yeongcheon from grades 1 through 6 who wishes to participate. Operating hours are from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays. During school vacations, it plans to operate from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to minimize any care gaps.
The center provides a diverse range of care and skill development programs, as well as elective programs, tailored to each student's developmental stage, interests, and aptitudes.
For lower-grade students, programs include kids' English, reading play, creative science, crafting, cooking, creative robotics, reading and discussion, board games, rhythmic jump rope, 3D pen activities, drones, baking, and climbing. For students in grades 3 through 6, a wide variety of options such as broadcast dance, piano, percussion, baking, climbing, haegeum, coding, badminton, drones, cooking, reading and discussion, rhythmic jump rope, 3D pen activities, gayageum, creative robotics, daegeum, science experiments, and English are available, offering a broader choice for students.
The second floor features an indoor gymnasium, a care classroom, a "Neulbom" support room, and a cozy lounge. The third floor is equipped with a future creative coding lab, drone training room, VR/AR room, creative convergence science lab, and talent and arts studio. This setup provides a single space where students can participate in care activities as well as diverse educational activities spanning digital science, arts, and sports.
The beneficiary schools are Yeongcheon Elementary School, Yeongcheon Jungang Elementary School, Poeun Elementary School, Imgo Elementary School, Gogyung Elementary School, Danpo Elementary School, Kumho Elementary School, and Jacheon Elementary School, totaling eight schools. Considering after-school dismissal times and the distance to the center for each school, transportation will be provided mainly for students participating in the second session of programs.
The Gyeongbuk Office of Education plans to actively support the Yeongcheon Ondongne Care·Education Center, which has opened following similar centers in Pohang and Andong, to help it establish itself as a community-centered care and education model where schools and the local community collaborate to nurture and care for children.

In addition, a new "Gumi Ondongne Care·Education Center" is scheduled to open on March 1, 2027. The Office of Education intends to continuously expand the Ondongne care and education system in accordance with local conditions and demand.
