LS Cable Targets AI Data Center Power Infrastructure with Superconducting Technology
Signed MOU with "AFF Consortium"
Offering Integrated Solutions for Architecture, Power, and AI Infrastructure
LS Cable is set to target the rapidly growing artificial intelligence (AI) data center infrastructure market, leveraging its superconducting technology.
On September 1, LS Cable announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint business development with the "AI Factory Frontier (AFF)" consortium, which brings together five leading companies in fields such as graphics processing units (GPUs), power equipment, heat management, construction, and business development. The AFF consortium includes NAEWOO Architects & Engineers, Aswell AI, Enfield PND, Woojin Electric Machinery, and Iljin ENS.
Based on this collaboration framework, LS Cable will conduct a thorough analysis of site conditions and power demand from the initial stages of project planning to propose customized power network solutions. For external transmission lines, it will install the world’s first successfully commercialized superconducting cable network, while within the center, it plans to provide an integrated power and communication solution that combines bus ducts and optical communication cables.
Particularly, LS Cable’s superconducting system can deliver high-capacity power at a 154kV high-voltage level without losses using only 23kV-class medium-voltage equipment. This enables the use of existing facilities without the need for building new substations, which significantly reduces both installation area and costs.
The consortium participants will also leverage their specialized expertise to support the project. From architectural design and AI platform development to power equipment installation, project development, and the introduction of environmentally friendly cooling systems, the entire process of data center construction will operate seamlessly, providing clients with a one-stop solution.
Until now, LS Cable has supplied individual products, along with affiliates such as Gaon Cable and LS Eco Energy, to global big tech and neo-cloud companies. However, through this collaboration, the company plans to transform its business model into a comprehensive solution provider that designs the entire power infrastructure from the initial planning phase.
