Song Unseok: "A Cabinet Reshuffle Turning a Deaf Ear to Public Criticism... The Administration Must Shift Its Policy Direction"
"Main Culprits of Economic Collapse Remain in Their Positions Once Again"
Eon-Seok Song, Member of the People Power Party, on August 31 criticized President Jaemyung Lee’s mid-scale cabinet reshuffle, calling it a “cabinet shake-up that turns a deaf ear to public criticism.”
On his social media channel that day, Song stated, “A cabinet reshuffle should serve as an opportunity to hold those responsible for misguided policies accountable and to set the direction of state affairs straight. However, this reshuffle shows little trace of accountability, reflection, or even a willingness to shift policy.”
Song continued, “No one among the financial and economic policy circles responsible for the devastation to people’s livelihoods has been held accountable.” He added, “The policy chief Kim Yongbeom, suspected of expediting the launch schedule for leveraged exchange-traded funds (ETFs); the Financial Supervisory Service Governor, who later expressed regret for failing to raise objections during the policy process; and the Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, who pushed through new systems at breakneck speed even without a director in charge—all of these key figures, responsible for upending the public’s livelihood, have remained in their positions.”
Song further remarked, “(The real estate issue) cannot be resolved by merely changing the head of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.” He also called the appointment of the Minister of Justice “a serious conflict of interest,” adding, “The Ministry of Justice is not an institution that exists to resolve the personal legal affairs of the President.” He went on to say, “This appointment only deepens suspicions that the administration’s top priority is not state affairs but the withdrawal of criminal charges against the President.”

Song stated, “Disapproval of the administration has risen to the brink, yet the crisis is not being recognized as a crisis.” He added, “At this point, President Lee must heed the public’s warning seriously. Rather than relying on stopgap measures, there must be a fundamental shift in policy direction to restore the economy, security, and the rule of law in accordance with the Constitution and the law.”
