[2027 Early Admission] Hanyang University to Select 1,921 Students; New Interview Type Introduced for Pre-med School
Major Restructuring of Admissions Programs This Year
Essay-Based Selection Now 100% Essay Score
Hanyang University will select a total of 1,921 students for the 2027 academic year’s early admission: 1,731 within the regular quota and 190 outside the regular quota. This year's early admission has undergone a major restructuring, significantly expanding examinees’ range of choices and strategic application opportunities. In particular, there have been major changes to key admissions programs, such as expanding the “Recommendation Type” in the comprehensive student record screening, introducing a new “Interview Type” for the School of Medicine (pre-med), and transitioning the essay-based selection process to 100% essays.
The most significant change is the overhaul of the comprehensive student record screening. Moving away from a document-based structure, the size of the recommendation type selection has been greatly increased. The recommendation type is an admissions process that applies a 100% document evaluation along with a minimum required score on the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT). This year, the number of students selected through this type has increased by about 100 compared to the previous year.
The School of Medicine (pre-med), which admits 16 students, will no longer select students by 100% document evaluation starting this year, and will admit students only through the “Interview Type.” In the first stage, seven times the admission quota are selected through a document evaluation. In the second stage, the scores are composed of 70% document review and 30% interview. The interview is based on character and personality, drawing from the student record, rather than problem-solving based on provided materials.
The newly established “Social Integration Program” aims to expand university admission opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds. The Hanyang Intercollege (Natural Sciences Division) will select five students, offering opportunities to students such as children from large families, multicultural backgrounds, or children of military and police officers.
For the 2027 academic year only, the essay-based admissions process will eliminate the comprehensive student record evaluation requirement (previously 10%) and select students based 100% on the essay score. The minimum CSAT score requirement will remain, but as the burden of the student record is removed, this system becomes advantageous for students who are retaking the exam, those from special-purpose or autonomous private high schools, or those from general high schools whose GPAs may be relatively disadvantageous.
The Records-based (Recommendation Type) admissions process uses 90% school subject grades and 10% holistic evaluation. For the minimum CSAT requirement, students must achieve a combined score of 7 or less across three subjects (among Korean, Math, English, and Inquiry). For the School of Medicine (pre-med), the requirement is strengthened to a combined score of 4 or less in three subjects. The comprehensive (Document Type) selection admits students through 100% document review with no minimum CSAT required; applicants who have graduated from qualification exams or foreign schools are also eligible. For the Interview Type, seven times the admission quota are selected at the first stage based on documents, and in the second stage, 30% of the score is based on the interview. This type is used across various academic divisions, including the College of Engineering, College of Education, and Hanyang Intercollege.
