President Jaemyung Lee has nominated Soyoung Lee, a 41-year-old member of the Democratic Party representing Uiwang and Gwacheon in Gyeonggi Province, as the candidate for Minister of SMEs and Startups.
On the morning of August 30, Policy Chief Hunsik Kang announced at a press briefing at the Blue House that Lee had been nominated as the candidate for Minister of SMEs and Startups.
Kang stated, "Candidate Soyoung Lee has accumulated extensive policy experience, ranging from innovative growth to the livelihood economy, actively supporting startups and engaging in legislation for small business owners," adding, "With her exceptional drive, she is expected to lead the national startup transition and the cultivation and support of small businesses to success."

View original imageBorn in Busan in 1985, Lee graduated from the Department of Law at Sungkyunkwan University and passed the 51st National Judicial Examination in 2009. She completed the 41st class at the Judicial Research and Training Institute and worked as an attorney at Kim & Chang law firm.
Prior to the 2020 general election, she was recruited by the Democratic Party as an expert in climate and environmental issues, entering the 21st National Assembly. She was successfully re-elected in the 2024 general election.

During the 20th presidential election in 2022, Lee served as spokesperson for on-site and accompanying activities of then-presidential candidate Jaemyung Lee for five months, accompanying him on campaign tours across the country. At the time, President Lee expressed his trust in her, stating, "Among those accompanying me on-site, she gives the most direct and realistic advice."
