"Voluntary Reporting of Illegal Weapons Exempts from Criminal Liability and Administrative Penalties"
If you are in possession of illegal weapons, you can voluntarily report them during September and be exempt from criminal liability.
The National Police Agency announced on August 30 that it will operate the second voluntary reporting period for illegal weapons in 2026, for the entire month of September. Items subject to reporting include firearms and explosives such as gunpowder-explosives or ammunition possessed without a permit or after permit cancellation, as well as bladed weapons, spray guns, stun guns, and crossbows. In principle, those who report within the voluntary reporting period are exempt from both criminal liability and administrative penalties. If you wish to continue possessing the weapons, it is possible to obtain legal permission after undergoing a review for disqualifying factors.
Illegal weapons may be submitted by the individual or their representative to the nearest police station, substation, outpost, or military unit. If it is difficult to submit within the period, you can coordinate the method of submission with the relevant police agency.
If you are found to have manufactured, sold, or possessed illegal weapons after the voluntary reporting period ends, you may face imprisonment of at least three years and up to fifteen years, or a fine between 30 million won and 100 million won, in accordance with relevant laws.
Those who report illegal weapons possessors and contribute to their arrest can receive a reward of up to 25 million won.

Under the revised Firearms and Explosives Control Act implemented in January this year, permission for not only firearms but also bladed weapons, spray guns, stun guns, and crossbows must be renewed every three years. Weapons permitted before 2004 must be renewed by January next year. Required documents and detailed procedures for renewal can be obtained from the Crime Prevention and Order Division at the relevant police station.
