The "36th Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival for Residents," jointly hosted by Andong City and Yecheon County, has officially begun its final countdown ahead of the opening.
On August 27, Andong City announced that it held a meeting of city and county representatives at the Yecheon Culture and Sports Center, where they reviewed detailed implementation plans for the festival, including match schedules by event, stadium operations, and safety management.

The meeting was attended by officials from Gyeongsangbuk-do Province, the Gyeongsangbuk-do Sports Council, Andong City, Yecheon County, the respective sports councils of both municipalities, as well as more than 100 participants including secretaries-general and staff from sports councils of the 22 cities and counties in the province, and executive directors of member sports organizations.
During the meeting, participants shared updates on the preparations and progress of the event. The Gyeongsangbuk-do Sports Council presented guidelines for event operations, and match draws for each discipline were conducted. Special focus was given to reviewing matters directly tied to the festival's actual execution, such as stadium layouts, safety management, transportation for athletes, and the opening ceremony plan.
Representatives from the cities, counties, and sports organizations worked to minimize potential gaps in event management by addressing operational matters and possible variables that may arise onsite through a Q&A session.
Preparations for the opening ceremony, set to be held at Yecheon Stadium on September 18, have also taken shape. Methods for athlete entry, seating arrangements, parking and traffic management, safety measures, and schedules for receiving materials were shared. Participating cities, counties, and sports organizations will now commence full-scale entry preparations based on the final match schedule confirmed during the meeting.
This sports festival holds significance beyond simple competition between disciplines, serving as a large-scale platform for unity where sports enthusiasts from all 22 cities and counties in Gyeongbuk gather in one place.
In particular, as Andong City and Yecheon County are co-hosting, the seamless operational coordination between the two municipalities—covering areas such as transportation between venues, athlete transport, and safety management—is cited as a key factor that will determine the festival’s overall success.
An official from Andong City stated, "With this representatives’ meeting, preparations for the event have effectively entered their final stage. Through our close partnership with Yecheon County, we will ensure that not only the athletes but all our residents enjoy a safe and comfortable sports festival."
The 36th Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival for Residents will be held over three days from September 18 to 20, across Andong City and Yecheon County. Around 10,000 participants, including athletes, officials, and volunteers, will compete for the honor of their respective municipalities in 23 disciplines such as soccer, basketball, and athletics (marathon).
