National Institute for Korean Medicine Development Holds "2026 Promising Korean Medicine Technology Forum"... Exploring Technology Transfer and Commercialization
The National Institute for Korean Medicine Development (President Koh Hoyoun) held the "2026 Promising Korean Medicine Technology Forum" on the 26th at COEX in Seoul. The event was attended by over 60 participants including representatives from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, companies related to Korean medicine, and university-industry cooperation groups.
This forum was organized to introduce promising technologies in the field of Korean medicine held by universities and public research institutes to companies, and to enhance the possibility of technology transfer and commercialization through one-on-one consultations.
At the event, customized consultations were held between technology holders and companies for a total of 35 promising technologies. Among these, eight core promising technologies were spotlighted, including: a composition for osteoporosis treatment (Samnŭng extract), gastrointestinal barrier recovery material (Jacho extract), cognitive ability enhancement technology (Jukyeop extract), prevention of muscle injury and muscle strengthening technology (Baekhap extract), and a method for manufacturing an effervescent formulation containing Saengmaeksan, among others.
Notably, this event was carried out in conjunction with the "Korean Medicine Patent Technology Bank" operated by the institute.
Launched in 2024, the Korean Medicine Patent Technology Bank is a platform that consolidates 401 registered quality patented technologies currently collected and connects them to corporate demand.
The institute matched companies with technologies of interest in advance through a prior demand survey, and at the venue there were in-depth discussions on concrete commercialization plans such as technology transfers, joint research, and product development.
Lee Hwadong, Head of the Industrial Promotion Division at the National Institute for Korean Medicine Development, stated, "What matters most for excellent research results to be practically utilized in the industry is connecting them with companies. We will continue to actively support the commercialization of research outcomes by discovering promising technologies centering on the Korean Medicine Patent Technology Bank and linking follow-up support such as technology value assessment."
