Kakao and LG Uplus to Launch "AI for Everyone" Service via KakaoTalk and Phone Touchpoints
Joining Forces with LG Uplus, LG AI Research, LG CNS, and LG Electronics
Connecting Chatbots and Agents via KakaoTalk and AI-Powered Phone Services
Kakao announced on August 28 that the Kakao Consortium, with LG Uplus as a key participating company, has been selected as the final operator for the "AI for Everyone" project by the Ministry of Science and ICT.
The consortium plans to leverage the combined capabilities of its partners to build services that allow all citizens to easily and conveniently use artificial intelligence (AI) in their daily lives, with KakaoTalk and phone services as main touchpoints.
The Kakao Consortium comprises a total of 14 companies and organizations, including LG Uplus, LG AI Research, LG Electronics, LG CNS, Kakao Enterprise, Seoul National University Hospital, Shinhan Bank, Lunit, Wonderful Platform, Worksphere, Jobis & Villains, Day1Company, Crowdworks, and FuriosaAI. The consortium aims to provide AI services by combining its own AI models with the unique expertise of each participating company.
The consortium will center “AI for Everyone” services around KakaoTalk and AI-powered phone services. The solutions will include a general-purpose AI chatbot, a public-sector AI agent, and specialized AI agents for specific fields. These components will be seamlessly connected to provide a natural flow, lowering barriers to AI adoption.
The models powering the services are “K-Exaone” from LG AI Research and “Kanana” from Kakao. In addition to verifying quality and safety, Kakao will ensure that the services are accessible to everyone, including seniors and people with disabilities, to support digital inclusion for vulnerable groups.
The consortium plans to launch a public beta service in September and will improve the offering based on user feedback. A formal service featuring the verified core functions will be introduced by the end of this year.
Kim Sewoong, AI Synergy Performance Leader at Kakao, said, "The essence of this service is to ensure that anyone can easily access AI through the familiar KakaoTalk platform, enabling people not only to search for information but also to seamlessly carry out a wide range of daily tasks to completion using AI. Together with the consortium's partners, we will cooperate to build a national AI service platform that anyone can use easily."
