The improvement project for Local Road No. 86, which connects Wabu-eup and Hwado-eup in Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province, has passed the preliminary feasibility study.
On August 27, Namyangju City (Mayor Choi Hyun-deok) announced that the "Wabu~Hwado 2" project for Local Road No. 86 had passed the integrated preliminary feasibility study conducted for the establishment of the 6th National Road and Local Road Construction Plan.
The Ministry of Planning and Budget held the 7th Fiscal Investment Evaluation Committee meeting on August 26 and confirmed the results of the integrated preliminary feasibility study conducted on 142 road projects across the country. Among these, 54 projects were deemed feasible after evaluating their economic efficiency, policy relevance, and effects on balanced regional development.
The Wabu~Hwado 2 project involves improving a 5.2 km stretch of the road, from Junggwang Village Samgeori in Wabu-eup to Sure-neo-meo-gogae in Hwado-eup, by upgrading it to a two-lane road. At Sure-neo-meo-gogae, which features steep slopes and sharp curves, a new tunnel measuring 910 meters in length will be constructed. Sidewalks will also be installed to enhance pedestrian safety.
This section has caused inconvenience for residents due to its narrow width and repeated steep slopes and sharp curves. Upon completion of the project, traffic accident risks are expected to decrease, and vehicle traffic between Wabu-eup and Hwado-eup should become smoother.
The projects that have passed this preliminary feasibility study are included in the 6th National Road and Local Road Construction Plan, which the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to announce in the second half of this year. These projects will be carried out sequentially.

An official from Namyangju City stated, "The inclusion of the Wabu~Hwado 2 project for Local Road No. 86 in the 6th National Road and Local Road Construction Plan has laid the foundation for resolving long-standing transportation inconveniences in the region," adding, "We will do our best to work closely with relevant institutions to ensure that the project is carried out without any setbacks."
