SAMG Entertainment's "Wish Cat" Enters Japan with Bandai... 10 Toys to Launch in November
SAMG Entertainment, the global comprehensive content company, is launching its flagship intellectual property (IP) "Wish Cat" in the Japanese market through a partnership with global toy company Bandai. Beginning with the release of the animation, the company is expanding into the local toy and licensing business sectors as it targets the Japanese character market.
On August 27, SAMG Entertainment announced that it would be releasing the Japanese dubbed version of 'Wish Cat' through its official YouTube channel and that, starting in November, it plans to launch a lineup of 10 toys through Bandai in the Japanese market.
The first public unveiling in Japan is taking place at the 'Tokyo Toy Show 2026,' which opens on this day. In a dedicated Wish Cat zone at the Bandai booth, the animation, character, and toys will be showcased.
For the Japanese dubbed version, episodes 1 through 13 of season 1 (out of 26 episodes in total) will be released first. Thereafter, new episodes will be introduced sequentially every Saturday to further grow the local fanbase.
SAMG Entertainment chose YouTube as its primary content distribution channel in Japan as a strategic decision, reflecting the high user rate among Japanese teenagers. According to Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, YouTube usage among local teenagers reaches 95.7%. The company plans to focus on releasing content via YouTube while also leveraging social media platforms such as X, Instagram, and TikTok to strengthen brand awareness.
In the toy business, the target audience is being expanded beyond the existing core fanbase of teenage girls to include adult women in their 20s and 30s.
This strategy takes aim at the significant purchasing power of female consumers in the Japanese character market. With the distinctive character design and product quality of Wish Cat, SAMG Entertainment intends to appeal to both the teenage fandom and the adult female consumer base simultaneously.
The 10 new Wish Cat toys launching in November will be distributed by Bandai, which operates a robust distribution network in Japan, while SAMG Entertainment will focus on animation content production and brand management.
The company aims to build a business structure where animation content leads to toy sales, thereby expanding the monetization scope of the Wish Cat IP in Japan. Depending on local response, the company also plans to broaden content distribution channels to include OTT platforms and TV broadcasting in the future.
A SAMG Entertainment official stated, "In Japan, we aim to reach a wide audience ranging from teenage fans to adult women through YouTube, and will fully launch our toy and licensing business in line with this. Based on local response, we plan to further expand content distribution channels, including OTT and TV broadcasts."
'Wish Cat' is a fantasy animation that tells the story of Anna, a teenage girl, and the mystical cat Wish Cat who grants wishes. Focusing on stories about everyday concerns and wishes, the series is gaining fans through its emotionally engaging direction and high-quality video utilizing 3D computer graphics (CG).
In Korea, season 2 "Wish Cat Magic Card" is currently available on major broadcast channels such as SBS and Tooniverse, as well as via IPTV and OTT platforms. The company continues to expand its business sectors through the release of toys and licensed products, along with brand collaborations.

Through this entry into Japan, SAMG Entertainment plans to simultaneously launch both content and toy sales, thus fully accelerating the global IP business for Wish Cat. With Bandai as a major local distribution partner, attention is on whether the company can establish an end-to-end IP value chain linking animation to toys and licensing in the Japanese market as well.
