'Infinity Vision' Certification Introduced for the First Time
Walt Disney Company Korea has decided to revisit a film from seven years ago in the lead-up to December's 'Avengers: Doomsday.' On August 26, the company announced that the all-time highest-grossing foreign film in Korea, 'Avengers: Endgame' (2019), will be rereleased under the name 'Encore' on September 23.
This is not merely a standard rerelease. Joe Russo, the director of 'Avengers: Doomsday,' recently revealed at the Sands Film Festival in Scotland that new scenes set within the Doomsday storyline will be added to Endgame for this rerelease. He further commented, "This is an opportunity to build a unique bridge between Endgame and Doomsday."
Familiar faces are returning. In the wake of a crisis in which half of humanity vanishes due to Thanos (Josh Brolin), the Avengers—including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Spider-Man (Tom Holland)—join forces to save the world. When this film was released in Korea in April 2019, it drew more than 13.93 million viewers. It remains the highest-grossing foreign film ever released in Korea and ranks sixth overall, even when including Korean films.
For this screening, Disney will introduce a new special theater certification called 'Infinity Vision' for the first time. This certification is awarded to theaters that meet certain standards for screen and sound quality, effectively serving as an alternative to IMAX. The move is part of Disney’s December release strategy. 'Dune: Part 3,' which opens on the same day as 'Avengers: Doomsday,' will exclusively occupy IMAX theaters worldwide for three weeks following its release. Disney is effectively unveiling its own premium screening brand ahead of time with this rerelease in response to the competition.

'Doomsday' tells the story of the Avengers facing off against the ultimate villain, Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.), and is set to premiere on December 18.
