It was reported on August 26 that eight South Korean nationals have gone missing and ten have been stranded following floods in Nepal. The government has immediately convened an emergency response meeting and plans to dispatch a rapid response team to provide local support.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a flood occurred in the Rasuwa region of Nepal earlier that morning (local time). As a result, eight South Korean employees affiliated with Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd. and Doosan Enerbility, both involved in the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in the area, lost contact. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the Nepalese government has dispatched a rescue team composed of members from the army and police to the affected area and is currently carrying out search and rescue operations.
Additionally, ten other South Korean nationals affiliated with Doosan Enerbility have also been stranded locally and are awaiting rescue. The Nepalese government has dispatched a helicopter to rescue them.
Upon being notified of the incident, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal immediately informed the Nepalese authorities about the eight missing Koreans and urgently requested a swift and proactive search and rescue operation. An embassy consul was also dispatched to the scene.
The government has promptly established the Overseas Korean Protection Task Force, headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun, as the chief. A meeting is scheduled to be held under Minister Cho's leadership at 10:30 p.m. tonight. In addition, the government will dispatch a joint rapid response team—comprising members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Fire Agency, and the National Police Agency—to Nepal as quickly as possible.

In relation to the incident, President Lee Jaemyung issued an emergency directive, stating, "Mobilize all available resources to conduct a full-scale search and rescue for the missing persons," and, "Prioritize the lives and safety of our citizens above all else," as conveyed by Kang Yoo Jung, Chief Presidential Spokesperson.
