South Korean National Missing During Hydropower Plant Construction
"Top Priority Is the Safety and Lives of Our Citizens"
The Office of the President announced on August 26, 2026, that a South Korean national has gone missing in Nepal after participating in the construction of a local hydropower plant, following a flood.
Kang Yoo-jung, Chief Presidential Spokesperson, conveyed that President Lee Jaemyung gave urgent instructions after being briefed on the situation, ordering, "Mobilize all available resources to focus fully on the search and rescue operations for the missing person. Place the utmost priority on the safety and lives of our citizens."
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on August 26 (local time), a sudden flood struck the Rasuwa region in Nepal, and eight South Korean employees affiliated with Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd. and Doosan Enerbility, who were working on the construction of a hydropower plant in the area, lost contact. On the same day, ten other South Korean employees from Doosan Enerbility also became isolated at the site.

President Lee also stressed, "Work closely with the Nepalese government and local authorities, thoroughly support the families of the missing and ensure the safety of South Koreans still present at the site, and do everything possible to prevent additional damage."
