The extension project of the Byeollae Line, which connects Byeollae Station and Byeollae Byeolgaram Station in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, has been selected as a target for the government’s preliminary feasibility study. The project to link the disconnected sections of Subway Line 8 and Line 4 has once again gained momentum.
The Namyangju city government (Mayor Choi Hyundeok) announced on August 26, 2026, that the Byeollae Line extension metropolitan rail construction project has been officially selected as the 'Second Preliminary Feasibility Study Target Project for 2026.'
Among the railway projects under consideration for this round of preliminary feasibility studies, the Byeollae Line extension is the only one to be selected.
The Byeollae Line extension is a metropolitan railway project that will connect Byeollae Station on Subway Line 8 to Byeollae Byeolgaram Station on the Jinjeop Line (Subway Line 4), covering a distance of 3.4 kilometers.
Upon completion, these two lines will be connected by rail, significantly improving access to Seoul and transfer convenience for residents in the northeastern part of Namyangju.
The project is a core initiative included in the wide-area transportation improvement plan for Wangsuk New City. It is being promoted to meet the anticipated increase in transportation demand driven by large-scale developments, including Wangsuk New City itself.
After failing to pass the preliminary feasibility study in 2024, Namyangju City conducted its own review to supplement the project’s economic viability and policy feasibility. Mayor Choi Hyundeok has also consistently advocated for the necessity of this project to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Metropolitan Transport Commission, and Gyeonggi Province.
Mayor Choi stated, “The Byeollae Line extension project is not just about connecting previously disconnected railway sections but is a transportation welfare initiative that will improve commuting conditions for residents in the northeastern part of Namyangju and bridge different regional living zones. I am deeply gratified that this project, for which we have continuously petitioned, has been selected as a target for the preliminary feasibility study.”
He added, “Selection as a target for the preliminary feasibility study is not the end but the real beginning. We will now respond actively to the study, work in close cooperation with related agencies, and concentrate all administrative resources to ensure the project passes the final review.”

Meanwhile, Namyangju City’s other key transportation issue—the Waubu~Hwado 2 National Route 86 project—has also passed the 6th comprehensive preliminary feasibility review. This project calls for upgrading a 5.2-kilometer stretch from Junggwang Village Samgeori in Wabu-eup to Chasan-ri in Hwado-eup into a two-lane road and the construction of a 910-meter-long tunnel. The total project cost is 174.8 billion won.
