Incheon City is taking proactive measures to address environmental issues closely tied to citizens' daily lives, such as fine dust, ozone, and odors, as it works to create a more pleasant urban environment.
On the 26th, the city announced plans to gradually expand 'Air Lounge' spaces, which are designed to protect citizens from high concentrations of fine dust and ozone, and to implement a project supporting maintenance costs for odor-reducing facilities at establishments like grilled food restaurants.
The Air Lounge is a specialized area equipped with advanced air purification features, offering a safe space for citizens to stay on days with high environmental hazards.
The city plans to prioritize the installation of Air Lounges in fine dust management zones and crowded areas frequently used by vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly, making active use of existing infrastructure like enclosed bus stops.
Currently, the city has designated and operates 116 easily accessible facilities—including bus stops, administrative welfare centers, senior centers, and transit waiting areas—as fine dust shelters.
The city is also launching initiatives to address everyday odor issues. It will provide specialized technological support to businesses that cause odors, such as grilled food restaurants, and expand a rental care system that assists with the maintenance costs of odor-control equipment like electric dust collectors.
