Appointment Proposal to Be Approved at Extraordinary General Assembly on September 8
The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on the 25th that it has selected Kim Jong-il, former Head of the New Trade Order Strategy Office at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, as the incoming full-time Vice Chairman. The full-time Vice Chairman is a key position responsible for overseeing the daily operations and policy implementation of the KCCI, acting on behalf of the Chairman, who serves on a non-executive basis.
The KCCI plans to convene an extraordinary general assembly of members on September 8 to put forward the 'appointment proposal for the new full-time Vice Chairman.' If the proposal is approved, Kim will be officially appointed as the new full-time Vice Chairman.
Over a career spanning more than 30 years, Kim has accumulated broad expertise and experience in key national industries such as industrial policy, trade, energy, and semiconductors, working both in government ministries and the private sector.
At the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Kim held major governmental positions, serving as Director of the Semiconductor and Display Division, Director of the American Trade Division, Director of FTA Policy, Director of Energy Innovation Policy, and Head of the New Trade Order Strategy Office. In these roles, he led efforts to strengthen national industrial competitiveness and formulate trade policies. After moving to the private sector, he held positions as Head of Global Business Policy at SK Square and Executive Vice President of External Relations at SK hynix, responding to the rapidly changing global trade environment and establishing cooperation systems between the government and private companies.
The KCCI evaluated Kim as the right person to bridge government and business, noting that he has both comprehensive experience with government industrial and trade policy and a solid background in corporate external relations and global business.
