Sec Joins 35.2 Billion Won Next-Generation Radiotherapy National Project... Targeting Localization of Medical LINAC
Sec, a company specializing in electron beam source technology, will participate in a government-led next-generation radiotherapy equipment project with a total budget of 35.2 billion won. Following its involvement in the FLASH radiotherapy device, the company has consecutively joined large-scale national projects in the next-generation radiotherapy sector and plans to accelerate the localization of core technologies for medical linear accelerators (LINAC) and diagnostic CT equipment.
On August 25, Sec announced that it has been selected as a joint research institution in the new task of the 'Global Flagship Medical Device Development' program under the Pan-Ministry Medical Device Research and Development Project Group: the 'Development of the World's Best Active Dose Distribution Control Radiation Therapy Device.'
This project will be carried out over six years and six months, from July 2026 to December 2032. The total project budget amounts to approximately 35.2 billion won, with about 28 billion won provided as government funding. Radexcell serves as the lead organization, with Sec participating alongside the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, Korea Testing Laboratory, Asan Medical Center, and Oncosoft as joint research entities.
Particularly notable is the involvement of Asan Medical Center, which enhances the potential for real-world clinical application of the research. The goal is to develop and validate a system that reflects clinicians' requirements from the early stages of development and can be used directly in hospitals.
The core objective of this project is to develop technologies that enable more precise irradiation of radiation tailored to the patient and tumor status. Targets include MPRT (magnetic field-based precision radiotherapy), which uses magnetic fields to reduce radiation toxicity in healthy tissues, and Adaptive RT (adaptive radiotherapy), which allows clinicians to replan treatments after confirming the tumor size, location, and surrounding organ shapes on the day of treatment.
Among these, Sec will be in charge of developing the localized version of the medical linear accelerator (LINAC), the key device of the radiotherapy equipment, as well as the diagnostic CT technology required for real-time assessment of patient status during treatment.
The research participation period for Sec runs from July 2026 to December 2030, spanning four years and six months. The company will receive a total of 2.5 billion won in government funding for this project.
This participation is also noteworthy in that Sec is expanding its technology portfolio to venture into the medical field. Previously, the company joined another project announced in July 2026, the 'FLASH Radiotherapy One-Second Cancer Treatment Strategic Research Project.' For that project, Sec is responsible for developing core devices and systems for FLASH radiotherapy equipment, such as ultra-high dose electron beam-based medical LINACs, backed by 6.25 billion won in government support.
As a result, Sec is now simultaneously involved in developing medical LINAC technology for two sectors of next-generation radiotherapy—namely, FLASH radiotherapy devices utilizing ultra-high dose electron beams and active dose distribution control radiotherapy devices.
The reason Sec is focusing on acquiring LINAC and CT technology for medical applications lies in the electron beam and X-ray technologies amassed through its existing operations. The company has developed industrial inspection equipment leveraging in-house electron beam accelerator technologies, and its strategy is to expand into the medical sector using this foundation.

Thanks to government support, we have secured stable R&D resources for advancement into the medical field, and we will do our utmost to execute our planned technology development without setbacks so it can lead to future commercialization."
