KOSPI Down Over 3% Intraday on Foreign Investor Net Selling

View original imageThe KOSPI is showing intraday weakness, weighed down by net selling from foreign investors.
As of 10:23 a.m. on August 25, the KOSPI was trading at 6,495.0, down 3.02% from the previous day.
By investor type, foreigners are net sellers of 1.6682 trillion won, while institutions and individual investors are net buyers of 254.2 billion won and 1.0515 trillion won, respectively. In the futures market, institutions and individuals are net sellers of 108 billion won and 96.7 billion won, respectively, while foreigners are net buyers of 199.2 billion won.
By industry, more sectors are falling than rising. Electrical and electronics are down 4.42%; medical precision, -3.72%; IT services, -3.75%; manufacturing, -3.66%; pharmaceuticals, -2.15%; entertainment and culture, -1.73%; distribution, -1.82%; financials, -1.23%; chemicals, -1.03%; non-metallics, -0.94%; textiles and apparel, -0.96%; and securities, -0.84%. On the other hand, the construction sector is strong, up 3.73%; electricity and gas up 2.36%; paper and wood products up 1.09%; transportation and storage up 0.79%; and metals up 0.89%.
Most of the large-cap stocks by market capitalization are also weak. Samsung Electronics is down 3.7%, SK hynix -5.98%, SK Square -6.69%, Samsung Electro-Mechanics -4.25%, Hyundai Motor -0.72%, LG Energy Solution -3.31%, Samsung Biologics -1.21%, Samsung C&T -2.19%, and Samsung Life Insurance -0.53%. On the other hand, KB Financial Group is strong, up 1.16%, with Hanwha Aerospace up 0.45%, Kia up 0.08%, and Shinhan Financial Group up 3.19%.
The KOSDAQ index is also weak. At the same time, the KOSDAQ index was trading at 791.19, down 2.72% from the previous trading day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners are net sellers of 64.3 billion won and 79.6 billion won, respectively, while individual investors are net buyers of 150.8 billion won.
Most of the top KOSDAQ stocks by market capitalization are also weak. Alteogen is down 6.55%, Ecopro -4.78%, Ecopro BM -5.13%, Rainbow Robotics -1.8%, Wonik IPS -1.32%, HLB -3.3%, LIG Nex1 -2.63%, EO Technics -0.77%, Pharmaresearch -2.04%, Peptron -3.83%, and ABL Bio -6.73%. On the other hand, Jusung Engineering and Simmtech are moving in slightly positive territory.
