EY Hanyoung Signs Sovereign AI MOU with Upstage
Strengthening Capabilities to Support Domestic Companies in Adopting Sovereign AI
EY Hanyoung has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) related to sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) with the AI company Upstage.
The two companies signed the business agreement on the 24th at the EY Hanyoung office in Yeouido, Seoul. Key representatives from both organizations, including Suyeon Kim, Head of AI Center at EY, and Hwalseok Lee, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Upstage, attended the signing ceremony.
An EY Hanyoung representative stated, "Through this agreement, we plan to combine Upstage's proprietary AI model technology with EY Hanyoung's industry expertise and AX (AI Transformation) execution experience to support the introduction and broader utilization of sovereign AI by domestic companies."
The two companies plan to cooperate on various initiatives, including sharing market and regulatory trends related to sovereign AI, jointly identifying sector-specific AI application models based on sovereign technology, sharing AI adoption strategies and practical case studies throughout companies' AX initiatives, supporting the introduction and dissemination of sovereign AI among domestic enterprises, and exploring opportunities to jointly identify and serve new clients.

View original imageGoing forward, the companies will work together to help domestic firms create real business value through AI while meeting data security and regulatory requirements. In particular, they will jointly explore AI utilization strategies at every stage—from developing AI adoption strategies and technology validation to on-site implementation and building operational systems—while expanding optimized AI innovation cases for each industry.
Suyeon Kim, Head of AI Center at EY, said, "This collaboration is significant in that it allows us to further expand the ecosystem of cooperation with domestic AI technology companies and provide customers with a wider range of AI options. We will continue to strengthen AI partnerships to accelerate clients' AX and contribute to the growth of the AI ecosystem in Korea."

Hwalseok Lee, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Upstage, said, "Upstage has focused on developing AI that can be practically adopted by domestic companies, leveraging our in-house technological capabilities. Our collaboration with EY Hanyoung will create a concrete foundation for the expansion of sovereign AI-based AX by combining on-the-ground industry expertise with advanced AI technology."
