S-Energy to Repower Nexen Tire Changnyeong Plant Rooftop Solar, Expanding Capacity by 62.8% with BC Modules
S-Energy, a renewable energy specialist company, will supply next-generation high-efficiency Back Contact (BC) modules for the repowering project of the rooftop solar power facility at the Nexen Tire plant in Changnyeong.
S-Energy announced on the 25th that it is scheduled to deliver BC modules to the Nexen Tire Changnyeong plant in September. This project aims to replace the existing solar power equipment with high-efficiency modules, increasing the capacity of the facility without the need to secure additional rooftop space.
The company expects that, through this repowering, the installed capacity can be expanded by approximately 62.8% within the same rooftop area.
The BC module is a product designed by placing the solar cell electrodes on the back side, which expands the light-receiving area on the front. This enables high output even in limited spaces, making these modules highly valuable for industrial rooftop solar markets, such as factories and logistics centers where rooftop space is restricted.
This supply is also significant in that previous deliveries have led to follow-up orders. S-Energy's solar modules are already installed at the Nexen Tire Changnyeong plant. The company notes that long-accumulated on-site operational experience and product reliability have contributed to this latest next-generation module supply.
An S-Energy representative stated, "Being able to supply next-generation BC modules again to an existing project site is a result of our long-accumulated field expertise and high-efficiency product competitiveness being recognized," adding, "Since we are expanding the installed capacity by 62.8% on the same rooftop, we expect to offer a practical alternative to the industrial rooftop market, where there is demand to increase power generation within limited spaces."
On the back of this project, S-Energy plans to accelerate its strategy to target the industrial solar repowering market. As solar power plants operate over long periods, demand for replacement of aging equipment is increasing. The importance of repowering projects, which utilize high-efficiency modules to boost power generation and asset value on existing sites, is also growing.
Particularly, demand for high-output modules is rising in the factory rooftop solar segment, as securing new land is difficult and more power output is needed from the same area. S-Energy aims to discover additional replacement needs, centering on existing installation sites, and expand its reference base in the industrial rooftop market.
An S-Energy spokesperson added, "By securing this Changnyeong plant supply as a major reference for industrial rooftop repowering and actively seeking additional replacement demand at existing installation sites, we will broaden the foundation for improved profitability by expanding the actual orders and deliveries of specialized high-efficiency products such as HJT and BC modules, and BIPV."

S-Energy is also expanding its high-efficiency solar business both domestically and overseas. The company is broadening its business scope through projects such as a 6.0MW high-efficiency module supply to Incheon Namdong Industrial Complex, a 1.5MW BIPV supply to Seoul Arena, repowering of solar power plants in Japan, and HJT module supply to the Middle East.
