A Record 3.28 Trillion Won Spent on Food Delivery Last Month... Delivery Platform Payments Hit All-Time High
24.41 Million Payment Users in July
Average of 5.8 Transactions and 135,000 Won Spent Per Person
Last month, the combined estimated payment amount for the four delivery platforms—Baedal Minjok, Coupang Eats, Yogiyo, and Ttaenggyeoyo—reached an all-time high of 3.28 trillion won.
On August 25, WiseApp·Retail, a real-time application (app) and payment data analytics solution provider, announced the monthly trends of estimated payment amounts and the number of monthly active users (MAU) for the four delivery platforms.
According to a sample survey of credit card and debit card payment amounts for Koreans conducted by WiseApp·Retail, the combined estimated payment amount for the four delivery platforms in July was 3.2787 trillion won. This figure is an 18% increase compared to 2.7889 trillion won in the same month last year. It also surpassed the previous record of 3.2004 trillion won set in May this year, breaking the record in just two months.
The total number of unique payers for the four delivery platforms in July was 24.41 million. The average number of payments per person was 5.8, with an average payment amount per person of 134,747 won. The average payment amount per transaction was found to be 23,203 won.
Based on WiseApp·Retail’s sample survey of Korean smartphone users, the most widely used delivery app by Koreans in July was Baedal Minjok, with 23.02 million monthly users. This was followed by Coupang Eats with 13.13 million, Yogiyo with 3.55 million, and Ttaenggyeoyo with 2.49 million users. Notably, Coupang Eats recorded its highest-ever estimated payment amount and app user numbers in July, showing a strong growth trend.

This survey by WiseApp·Retail estimated the credit card and debit card payment amounts based on information shown in Korean consumers’ payment histories. The number of app users was estimated by sampling smartphone users. Payment amounts made via account transfers, cash transactions, or gift certificates were not included, and the figures differ from individual companies’ actual sales.
