Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Kim Sanghwan, in relation to the 'Judicial Petition System,' stated, "I urge all legal professionals to clearly recognize the supreme normative status of the Constitution and to reflect on their judgments more humbly from the perspective of the Constitution."
In his congratulatory remarks sent to the '34th Lawyers' Conference for the Rule of Law,' hosted by the Korean Bar Association (President Kim Jungwook) on the 24th, Chief Justice Kim said, "For the new system to be stably established with public trust and to fully realize its original purpose, the role of lawyers, who have most closely represented the rights of the people, is more important than anything else," highlighting this point.
Referring to this year's conference theme, 'Guaranteeing Citizens' Fundamental Rights amid Changes to the Judicial System,' he emphasized, "No change in the judicial system should deviate from the essential values sought by the Constitution and the guarantee of citizens' fundamental rights."
Chief Justice Kim also said, "Today, our society faces various changes, such as the advancement of information and communication technologies, artificial intelligence, low birth rates and an aging population, and income polarization. As a result, new roles and responsibilities are being demanded of the judicial system. While the efficiency and speed of the system are important, the principle that every citizen must be able to have their rights effectively protected through fair procedures must never be compromised."
