An Amazon customer in the United States experienced an unexpected incident when a package she ordered was dropped directly into her swimming pool during drone delivery.
According to the New York Post and other outlets on August 20 (local time), Lindsay Austin, a resident of Richmond, Texas, used Amazon's drone delivery service, Prime Air. After receiving a notification that her package was "out for delivery," Austin heard the buzzing sound of the drone and went outside to watch the delivery of her package.
However, something unforeseen occurred. During the delivery process, the drone dropped the package straight into Austin's swimming pool. Austin said, "I was really shocked when the package fell into the pool," and added, "I don't think I'll want to use drone delivery again." The contents of the package remain unknown.
A video capturing this delivery mishap quickly went viral on social networking services (SNS), drawing significant attention. This came just a day after Amazon announced its plan to expand the Prime Air service to 500 cities in the United States by the end of this year. Currently, Amazon operates its drone delivery service in 11 locations, including Papillion in Nebraska and Ruskin in Florida.
Regarding this incident, Amazon stated that accidents occurring during drone deliveries are extremely rare. Company spokesperson Ally Payne said, "Prime Air delivers a variety of products quickly and reliably, and customer feedback on the service has been overwhelmingly positive."

She added, "It is very rare for a problem to occur during delivery. Whenever a delivery does not go as planned, we use the experience to improve our service and take measures to ensure similar incidents do not happen again."
