Future Strike Plans Depend on Negotiation Results
The Hyundai Motor labor union (Metals Union Hyundai Branch) announced on the 23rd that wage negotiations will resume at the Ulsan plant on the 24th.
Accordingly, the union has decided not to strike on the 24th, which was initially scheduled to be part of a four-hour partial strike both on the 24th and 25th. Whether to carry out strikes on the remaining dates will be determined based on the outcome of the negotiations.
This year, both labor and management are negotiating over the scale of wage increases, a 50% increase in bonuses, the reinstatement of union members who were dismissed due to illegal activities during past union operations, and the extension of the retirement age.
After talks stalled following the initial meeting on May 6, the union has on occasion carried out partial strikes lasting from 2 to 6 hours. On the 21st, they held a full eight-hour strike for the first time in ten years.
