Police: "Report of Missing Woman's Body Found in Jeju Is False"
False Report of Missing Person Found
Police: "Focused Solely on Search"
It has been confirmed that reports about the discovery of a body believed to belong to a woman in her 30s who went missing in Jeju in May are not true.
According to Jeju Police Agency, the report that "a body and an ID card believed to be Jang Miran (age 37) were found near Hallim Port in Jeju" around 8 p.m. on the 22nd, was misinformation. A police official stated, "We are continuing the search, but the missing person has not been found yet," adding, "Jeju Police are mobilizing all available personnel and focusing on searching for the missing person."
Amid inadequate responses such as false closure of missing person reports, the police are preparing a focused search on the 20th at Hallim Port in Hallim-eup, Jeju City, to find Jang Miran, who has been missing for three months. Photo by Yonhap News

Her family filed a missing person report on the 15th, three days after her disappearance, but at that time, Sergeant A, who was on duty at the Missing Persons Team at Jeju Western Police Station, closed the case within two hours without verifying Jang's safety. It was reported that contact had been made, but no call records between the two have been confirmed.
The police have decided to add an administrator approval process to the missing person profiling system. This profiling system is used to manage reports and discovery information on missing children and adults who have run away, supporting investigative work. Until now, the person in charge could handle the process of removing a missing person report directly through the system. From now on, when a person in charge requests deletion, an administrator will check the reason for removal and the entered information and then give final approval.
