A fire broke out at a thermal power plant located within the Yeosu National Industrial Complex in Jungheung-dong, Yeosu-si, Jeonnam.

View original imageAccording to fire authorities and other sources on August 22, the fire broke out inside the power plant at around 4:08 p.m. Fire authorities mobilized 54 personnel and 27 pieces of equipment to extinguish the blaze and managed to contain the major fire by 6:11 p.m. As of now, no casualties have been reported.
The fire is believed to have started in a coal-related facility inside the power plant. Fire officials speculate that it ignited from 1 to 2 tons of coal dust that had accumulated inside.
Taking into account the possibility that embers might remain in the coal dust, the fire department is continuing to spray coolant water from outside to deal with any remaining hotspots.
