Spectator’s Father Apologizes: “I Am Sorry for Not Teaching My Child Properly”
A controversy has arisen as a video of a spectator forcefully pushing the head of a mascot in costume from behind at a professional baseball stadium has spread widely online. An internet user claiming to be the spectator’s father has issued apologies to both the team and the victim.
According to online communities and social media on August 22, a video was released showing the Samsung Lions mascot "Raon" being forcefully pushed from behind by a male spectator while walking through the aisle near the stands at a baseball stadium on August 19.
In the video, Raon was moving with a lowered posture to avoid obstructing the passage of spectators, when the man behind him suddenly pushed the mascot's head hard. The sudden impact caused Raon's body to sway violently, nearly causing him to fall forward. It has been pointed out that mascot costumes are quite heavy and visibility inside is limited, so losing balance on stairs or sloped aisles could easily result in injury.

They added, "The costume is already heavy enough—what if he got hurt? Raon was upset and called for a security guard," describing the situation at the time. The poster continued, "After the game, as I was leaving and saw the person's face, it seemed he was not an adult but a student."
As the video spread, online users reacted critically, saying, "That is truly dangerous behavior" and "There is a person inside the mascot suit—this could have led to a serious accident."
As the controversy grew, an internet user identifying himself as the spectator’s father posted a letter of apology. He stated, "First of all, I am sorry for not raising my child properly," and added, "I will make sure to educate him so that something like this never happens again."
He continued, "Immediately after the incident I apologized to the team official and sincerely apologized to Raon as well. My child is also deeply reflecting on his actions." He further stated, "We will show true remorse and make sure my child understands what he did wrong. I take full responsibility for not teaching my child properly."
